Gideon flipped a switch and they could hear Andy banging on the door of his room. They watched as the door opened and Alex walked in. After he shut the door, he looked at Andy.
Andy looked at him and asked, “How long are you going to keep me down here?”
“That depends on how you answer the next question I ask.” Alex told him as he leaned against the door.
Andy looked at him with mistrust. “What question would that be?”
“Who told you that someone was out here?” Alex wanted to know.
Andy shrugged. “I don’t really know who they were.”
Alex frowned. “What does that mean?”
“I was sitting in a booth at a diner when I overheard talk from the table next to mine. A bunch of guys were talking about Boone Sheridan and how they were going to find him.” Andy shrugged. “They mentioned something about the courthouse tomorrow and setting up a meeting.” Andy shrugged. “I don’t know anymore than that. I didn’t really stick around after that.”
“What’s your interest in Boone?” Alex wanted to know.
“Are you kidding me? I mean his wife was murdered and no one knows why. There has never been anything mentioned and no one has been charged. People have the right to know why she died.” Andy told him.
Alex shook his head. “I’ll give you a piece of advice. Leave Boone alone, leave his wife alone. There is no news there and it’s nobody’s business.”
“Are you going to let me go now?” Andy asked.
Alex shook his head. “Not yet.”
“But you promised.” Andy cried out.
Alex stopped and looked at Andy. “There are other things going on here that are more important than your freedom right now. You will be allowed to go after we’re done here. Until then, sit tight and let us do what we have to do.” He turned to leave.
“But you can’t hold me here against my will. That’s called kidnapping.” Andy told him. “That’s going to make a great story in the evening edition.”
Alex turned slowly and stared at him. His voice changed and you could sense the anger and frustration. “Look you little parasite, you came here. We didn’t come looking for you. You disabled a security system and snuck over half a mile to the house. Any one of us could have shot you for being an unwanted guest. Be thankful we’re just detaining you a couple of hours. Believe me, the situation could be a hell of a lot worse.”
A voice came over the microphone in Alex’s ear. He glanced toward the monitor and nodded. “Before I leave I need you to empty your pockets. Just dump everything on the bed.”
Andy frowned. “Why the hell would I do that?”
Alex stepped closer to him. “Because if you don’t, I’m sure Gideon would be more than happy to do it for you.”
Andy stepped back and began emptying his pockets. Car keys, some change, a pocketknife, a wallet, a flash drive and a cell phone tumbled on the bed. Alex stepped forward and scooped everything up. He looked at Andy and without a word he went to the door and left the room. Andy heard the click as the lock was turned from the other side. Andy glanced up at the corner of the room where the security camera blinked steady.
There was a look of despair on his face as well as a little fear of the unknown.
Alex joined the others in the security room. Boone, Gideon, Lola and Ethan were waiting for him. Gideon grabbed the flash drive and the cell phone and began downloading the info.
Alex went over to Boone and asked, “Did you hear where he got the info from?”
Boone nodded. “It must have been the Harleys’ sitting in the next booth.”
“If they can’t get to Faith any other way, they’ll try at the courthouse.” Lola stated.
“We already figured on that. That’s why we’re going underground for this.” Boone nodded. He turned and walked over to the filing cabinet in the corner. He opened the top drawer and rummaged around inside for something. He grabbed a rolled document and brought it over to a table and spread it out.
Lola, Ethan and Alex walked over to see what Boone was looking at. On the table was a blueprint of the courthouse. “Ok, this is the first courtroom we have to get her to for the hearing against Ewing.” Boone pointed to a third floor courtroom. Then he moved the page to the second floor. “And this is where the second hearing will be held.”
“So how do we get her from point A to point B safely?” Lola asked.
“We bring her down the judge’s corridor and down the stairs. We’ll have to close off the halls and corridors. This can be done.” Boone nodded.
Boone glanced at the clock. “We have two hours to get everything ready. We can’t take anything for granted and we have to anticipate every scenario.”
Boone reached for his cell phone and as he walked away, he punched in the numbers he needed to call Rick. Rick would have to be his ears and eyes until they left the compound.
